SOPO Editor’s Note: The Broadfoot Supplement to the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies is rare and not sold in single volumes. As a courtesy to researchers, I’m making available summaries of the reports contained in this set relevant to the Siege of Petersburg.
Summary: This less than one-page report of Major Jackson L. Bost covers the 37th North Carolina’s movements and actions from June 15 to July 28, 1864, with an emphasis on June 22, 1864 at the Battle of Jerusalem Plank Road and the July 28, 1864 fight against Union cavalry at First Deep Bottom, which Bost dismisses as skirmishing. The 37th North Carolina was part of Lane’s Brigade, Wilcox’s Division, Third Corps, Army of the Northern Virginia.
