John Foskett recently reviewed John Horn’s new book on Grant’s Fourth Offensive, The Siege of Petersburg: The Battles for the Weldon Railroad, August 1864, at Civil War News. The book is an updated second edition of Horn’s earlier H. E. Howard series book Destruction of the Weldon Railroad Deep Bottom Globe Tavern and Reams Station August 14-25, 1864.
John’s review covered the main points well, based on my reading so far through the end of Second Deep Bottom and a look at all of the maps, done by Hampton Newsome, Horn’s co-editor of a book on Petersburg resident and 12th Virginia soldier George Bernard.
