The Hampton Roads, VA area newspaper The Virginian-Pilot had an article Sunday, July 25, 2011 on North Carolinian soldier James Jennings, a member of the 56th NC, Co. C, who fought in the Bermuda Hundred and Petersburg campaigns. Jennings lost a brother at the Battle of Ware Bottom Church, had another brother captured at Fort Stedman east of Petersburg in March 1865, and was ultimately captured himself at Sutherland’s Station on the last day of the Siege, just a week prior to Lee’s surrender at Appomattox Court House.
