Steve Light at Battlefield Back Stories has a nice article up on Sergeant John Hoster of the 148th New York, whose Petersburg experience lasted all of part of one day before he was captured on June 15, 1864. Hoster and the rest of the men from his company of the 148th provided their Confederate captors with enough information for them to conclude that they were facing Baldy Smith’s entire Eighteenth Corps as of the night of June 15, 1864. Go check it out!
