SOPO’s Take: A good regimental history with more narrative flow than most.  This is good storytelling and a traditional military unit history.  Many sources were consulted and first person accounts added to help tell the tale.  The author’s Petersburg accounts lose focus a bit and spend as much or more time on Union movements as they do on the 11th North Carolina and MacRae’s Brigade.  This may be due to fewer primary sources available as the war dragged on.  Still, there are quite a few chapters and dozens of pages on the Siege of Petersburg.
