Kathryn Lerch has been researching the 8th New York Heavy Artillery for decades and is in the process of preparing a manuscript on the regiment, which fought as infantry at the Siege of Petersburg. My Grt Grt Grt Grandfather…Christian Burger served in the 8th NY Heavy Artillery…He died in 1871 as captain of The William Z Tousley h was killed accident when he jumped on to a lock and fell,he was crushed between a lock and the boat
